Categories
Set up the cookie categories visitors can accept or refuse — necessary, analytics, marketing, preferences or your own — and how each maps to Google Consent Mode.
A category is a group of cookies and scripts with one purpose. Visitors see each category in the preferences view and can switch it on or off.
Default categories
| Category | Purpose | Consent Mode signals |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Needed for the site to work (login, cart, security). Always on. | security_storage |
| Analytics | Measuring visits and behavior (e.g. Google Analytics). | analytics_storage |
| Marketing | Ads and remarketing (e.g. Google Ads, Meta Pixel). | ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization |
| Preferences | Remembering choices like language. | functionality_storage |
Edit or add categories
- Rename a category or rewrite its description in plain language — visitors should understand what they're agreeing to.
- Click Add category for your own group (for example "Chat widget"), and pick which Consent Mode signals it controls.
- Default on pre-ticks a category in the preferences view. Under GDPR, keep optional categories off by default.
Only "Strictly necessary" should be marked required. Marking analytics or marketing as required would run them without consent.
Scripts are assigned to categories on the Scripts tab.
