Consent Mode
Google Consent Mode v2 settings in Consentful — defaults, wait for update, ads data redaction and URL passthrough.
Consent Mode v2 tells Google tags (Analytics, Ads, Tag Manager) what each visitor agreed to. It's on by default. For the full background, read the Google Consent Mode v2 guide.
What Consentful does automatically
- Before any Google tag runs, it sets every signal to denied (except
security_storage). - When the visitor chooses, it sends an update granting the signals of each accepted category.
- On later visits it restores the saved choice straight away.
You don't need to set up anything in Google Tag Manager for this.
Settings
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for update | How long (ms) Google tags wait for the visitor's saved choice before sending data. | 500 ms |
| Ads data redaction | While ads consent is denied, removes ad identifiers from requests. | On |
| URL passthrough | Keeps ad-click information in links when cookies are denied, to improve measurement. | Off |
Put Consentful above your Google tag in the page <head> (the platform apps do this for you) so defaults are set before Google loads.
