Add a GDPR cookie consent banner to your Shopify store with the Consentful app — connected to Shopify's Customer Privacy API and Google Consent Mode v2.
Install the app
Install Consentful from the Shopify App Store and approve the install.
Activate
Open Apps → Consentful in your Shopify admin and paste your license key. Your store's domain is detected automatically.
Design and publish
Set up the banner and click Publish. Your banner is saved to your store — later edits go live the moment you publish, with no theme changes.
Turn on the app embed (once)
Shopify requires store owners to switch app embeds on themselves. On the Publish tab, click Turn on app embed →. The theme editor opens with Consentful already switched on — just click Save.
The Publish tab shows Live on storefront once everything is set up. If it says App embed off, repeat step 4. If you change themes, switch the embed on in the new theme too.
Good to know
- Consentful passes every visitor's choice to Shopify's Customer Privacy API, so Shopify's own analytics, checkout and pixels respect it too.
*.myshopify.comaddresses show the full banner without using a site, once activated with a key (a free key works).- Password-protected stores: the banner only appears after you get past the storefront password.
