WordPress
Install the Consentful WordPress plugin for a GDPR and CCPA cookie consent banner with Google Consent Mode v2. Activate it with a free or paid license key.
Get a license key
Create a free account and copy your key from the dashboard. It looks like CNSNT-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. The Free plan covers one site; paid plans unlock every feature.
Download and install
Download consentful-wordpress.zip (don't unzip it). In wp-admin go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip, then click Install Now and Activate.
Activate
Go to Settings → Consentful, paste your key and click Activate. Your site address is detected automatically.
Publish
Set up the banner and click Publish. The banner is added to every page of your site straight away, with no theme editing needed.
Activation sends only your license key and your site's domain to the Consentful licensing service — when you click Activate, and again when the settings screen opens to re-check it. On your live site the banner checks which plan the domain is on; visitors' consent choices are never sent.
Good to know
- Works with any theme and page builder (Elementor, Divi, Gutenberg…), because Consentful loads in the site's
<head>. - The banner script ships inside the plugin and is served from your own site; its language packs and images load from jsDelivr.
- Custom CSS and your own managed scripts are supported. Every value is validated when you publish.
- Caching plugins: after publishing, clear your page cache so visitors get the new banner.
- Deleting the plugin removes all of its settings from your database.
Updating
Download the latest zip and upload it the same way (Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin), then choose Replace current with uploaded. Your settings are kept.
Coming from 0.3, which ran without a key? After updating, activate the plugin with your key (a free key works). If you installed the separate Consentful Pro add-on, you can deactivate and delete it: 0.4 includes everything.
